Root beer jerky
Ingredients
-
3 cups root beer
-
1/3 cup soy sauce
-
1 tsp chipotle powder
-
1 tsp paprika
-
1 tsp granulated garlic
-
1/4 tsp liquid hickory smoke
-
1 lb London broil strips, or other lean beef strips
Instructions
-
Mix all ingredients except the meat into a saucepan and heat over medium-high heat. Cook until the mixture reduces by half, 15–20 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
-
Pour the marinade into a 1-gallon freezer bag and add the meat strips. Mix the strips around so they get completely coated in marinade.
-
Remove as much air as possible from the bag, seal, and refrigerate for 4 hours. Periodically remove the bag and work the meat around to fully incorporate the marinade.
-
Remove the strips from the marinade and arrange in a single layer in a dehydrator. Dry at 158°F for 4–6 hours, or until done. The jerky should be dark and bend without snapping.
